The club holds the callsign MW0SML and can be heard on both HF & VHF most Thursday afternoons. The club meets every Wednesday from 14:00 to 17:00 at the Preseli Man Shed at the Old Station Yard in Letterston. No matter what your interest is within the radio or electronics field someone at Sparks at the Shed will always be willing to discuss it with you. The club runs Foundation and Intermediate a courses and we are happy to teach people of any ability, you do not need to have a background in electronics or radio. If you are interested in taking a course or just want to find out more please contact our secretary. Amateur radio is a popular technical hobby and volunteer public service that uses designated radio frequencies for the non-commercial exchange of messages, wireless experimentation, self-training, and emergency communications. Anyone can listen in to amateur radio transmissions. If you’re new to amateur radio, then listening-in for a while is a good way to get a feel for what is going on. To become a radio amateur, licensed to transmit, you will need a brief period of study, and to pass a simple practical and theory examination. Sparks At The Shed Radio Club provides the training and examinations to enable you to become a radio amateur and then to progress through the various levels of licence — three in all. Study for the first level is straightforward. More details about the exams can be found on the website or by contacting any member of the Club Committee. |
